Neuralink Corporation is a neurotechnology company developing implantable brain-machine interfaces and was founded by Elon Musk and others. The company's headquarters is in the Pioneer Building in San Francisco sharing offices with OpenAI.

Neuralink… with the expansion of technology into biology comes with it a new set of challenges for information technology.  Founded in 2016, Neuralink is a startup by Elon Musk, and with sparse updates until the Neuralink devices unveiled in 2019.  Neuralink allows the brain to interface directly with a computer, which will possibly lead to being able to control devices with your mind. 

As progress moves along with this project, we are now starting to see small possibilities of the future.  The company released a video that shows a Monkey named “Pager” playing the game Pong using only his brain.  The Neuralink devices which have been attached to the monkey’s brain translate the brain activity and is being decoded by a computer which translates to movement on the computer.  

Along with the latest press release on Neuralink’s website, the company’s goal is “to give people with paralysis their digital freedom back: to communicate more easily via text, to follow their curiosity on the web, to express their creativity through photography and art, and, yes, to play video games.”

Creating a device, which can transmit from the brain, opens with it a world of possibilities.  We must also think of new ways to protect the data that is transmitted.  Could we see in the future being able to send messages almost telepathically, pay for coffee using just a Wi-Fi or NFC connection, or will this device help us map the brain in ways never thought possible?  

The idea of brain-computer interfaces has been around since the early 1970s and Neuralink is just the latest in companies trying to perfect this technology.  With the advancement of technology, the possibilities are only limited to your imagination.  I for one am looking forward to what will be accomplished in the future.
